ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
After completing B.A. LLB (H) in 2013 from University of Calcutta, he joined litigation in the High Court of Calcutta and the District courts in West Bengal. Thereafter while doing LL.M from WBNUJS, Kolkata he was engaged as a 'field investigator' in a project titled ‘assessment of the juvenile justice system in West Bengal’ to assess the implementation of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act. After completing LL.M in 2015 he joined as a ‘research assistant’ in a project titled 'judicial trends in cyber law with special reference to West Bengal' involving implementation of the Information Technology Act in the State of West Bengal. Subsequently he joined a research Centre established by Govt. of West Bengal at WBNUJS, Kolkata in 2016 dealing with various research areas on public policy such as Right to Information, Executive Magistrate, Bengal Excise.
He also published several articles, book chapters in national journals and books of repute including UGC Care, presented papers in national and international seminars and have also participated in several workshops, training programs and seminars.
He has also taught as Guest Lecturer in Law at Surendranath Law College in 2017, Assistant Professor of Law at Amity University, Kolkata in 2018-19 and as Guest Faculty at WBNUJS, Kolkata.
At present he is an Assistant Professor of Law at Sister Nivedita University, Kolkata and is pursuing his Ph.D. in Law from NLSIU, Bengaluru on the topic 'Access to justice with special reference to victims of crime in the Indian legal system’ – an empirical study.
Surja Kanta Baladhikari is an accomplished academician and legal professional currently serving as an Assistant Professor of Law at Sister Nivedita University, Kolkata. He embarked on his academic journey by obtaining his B.A. LL.B (Hons) degree from the University of Calcutta in 2013, where he laid the foundation for his career in law. Following this, Surja ventured into the legal profession by engaging in litigation at the High Court of Calcutta and various district courts in West Bengal, gaining practical insights into the workings of the judicial system.
Driven by a passion for research and academia, Surja pursued his LL.M degree from WBNUJS, Kolkata, during which he contributed significantly as a 'field investigator' in a project assessing the juvenile justice system in West Bengal. His involvement extended to a research assistantship focusing on judicial trends in cyber law under the Information Technology Act, a pivotal area of legal reform in the digital age.
His commitment to advancing legal scholarship led him to join a research center established by the Government of West Bengal at WBNUJS in 2016. Here, he delved into various research domains, including public policy issues such as Right to Information and executive magistrate functions in Bengal Excise. Throughout his career, Surja has demonstrated a strong academic presence with numerous publications in esteemed national journals and books, many of which are recognized by UGC Care.
Surja's academic prowess extends beyond publications; he has actively participated in national and international seminars, presenting papers that contribute to ongoing legal discourse. His academic engagements also include serving as a Guest Lecturer in Law at Surendranath Law College and as an Assistant Professor of Law at Amity University, Kolkata. Additionally, he has shared his expertise as a Guest Faculty member at WBNUJS, Kolkata, enriching the legal education landscape through his teaching and mentoring.
